Paperbark Maple Bonsai Tree
Acer Griseum is a small deciduous tree, native to high altitudes in central & south eastern China. Acer Griseum was introduced in Europe, then America in early 1900's, as a ornamental landscape tree. It is admired for its decorative
exfoliating copper to cinnamon brown bark and it's dramatic autumn foliage.
As it's branches thicken with age, they display an interesting peeling of the outer bark reveling a new reddish-copper bark.
Spring and summer this tree produces rich green leaves; small insignificant yellowish flowers, which bloom in April-early May in clusters.
In Fall the flower cluster produce (usually sterile) clusters of "winged" seed pods, which dry to a tan / brown; the leaves begin their change to brilliant fall foliage including green, scarlet, orange and pink hues.
This is an under-story tree which needs some early full sun, but should have partial shade from strong afternoon light A slow growing, compact tree, which makes a perfect companion for dwarf conifers and other smaller scale bonsai.
